Tshegofatso Mabasa Nudged to Join Chiefs

Tshegofatso Mabasa is at a career crossroads as he enters the final six months of his contract, which is expected to expire in June 2026.

Despite a respectable return of four goals and two assists in nine games in the current 2025-26 Premiership season, the 29-year-old Orlando Pirates forward has been sidelined by coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, having not played since early October.

Retired striker Phumlani Mkhize told a local sports publication over the weekend that his former club should pick up Mabasa, saying it would be “the best move”.

He argued that Amakhosi should focus on securing a clinical finisher and that choice would be an excellent replacement for Flavio Da Silva, whose form has faltered of late.

Mamelodi Sundowns are also reportedly lurking for an tactical forward, with ex-player Lebohang Mokoena suggesting that their “financial muscle” might entice Mabasa as he looks toward retirement.

With a looming chance to sign a pre-contract in January, Mabasa’s future remains a major talking point in the Premier Soccer League. His lack of game time has already cost him a spot in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, making a mid-season move crucial for his international ambitions.
